In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
The Light of Mercy: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Before mountains were raised or stars filled the sky, Allah created a light from which every mercy began. That light was the soul of Muhammad ﷺ, the one chosen to carry His final message to humanity.
When you hear his name, think not of a distant figure from history but of the living heartbeat of faith. Every act of goodness in Islam, every prayer, every charity, and every moment of patience reflects something of him ﷺ.
He was the Qur’an walking on earth. His words healed hearts, his smile lifted burdens, and even his silence taught wisdom. Angels lowered their wings before him, yet he mended his own sandals, visited the sick, and played with children in the streets.
“Say, if you love Allah, then follow me; Allah will love you and forgive you your sins.”
(Qur’an 3:31)
“I was sent only to perfect good character.”
(Al-Muwatta of Imam Malik, 1614)
His Birth and the Light of His Coming
Long before he was born, signs of his coming filled the world. Scholars of earlier scriptures spoke of a final messenger who would rise in Arabia. Even the stones and trees, it is said, longed to greet him.
When the blessed moment arrived, Allah chose the purest lineage for him. He was born in Makkah in the Year of the Elephant, on a Monday in the month of Rabi‘ al-Awwal. His father, Abdullah, had passed away before his birth, and his mother, Amina, described seeing a radiant light at the moment she gave birth, a light so bright it illuminated the distant palaces of Syria.
From his earliest moments, blessings surrounded him. His mother felt no pain during labour. When he was placed in the arms of his grandfather Abdul Muttalib, a fragrance filled the air. Those who saw him as a baby felt an unfamiliar peace, as if creation itself was welcoming him.
He was soon placed in the care of Halimah al-Sa‘diyyah. From the day she took the infant Muhammad ﷺ into her arms, her animals produced milk again and her fields turned green. She later said, “No child brought more blessing to a home than he did.”
“Did He not find you an orphan and give you shelter?”
(Qur’an 93:6)
His Character and Mission
From childhood he was known as Al-Amin, the Trustworthy. He listened with full attention, greeted with peace, never repaid harm with harm, and honoured the poor and the young.
At forty, while in the cave of Hira, the angel Jibril came with the first revelation.
“Read, in the name of your Lord who created.”
(Qur’an 96:1)
He called people to worship Allah alone, to be just, to honour parents, to protect the weak, and to live in kindness. When the people of Ta’if stoned him until his feet bled, he prayed:
“O Allah, guide my people, for they do not know.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari 3477; Sahih Muslim 1795)
“And We have not sent you, [O Muhammad], except as a mercy to the worlds.”
(Qur’an 21:107)
